Harper Clare Sutphin
About 2 months old. This picture was taken in July when Harper came to visit her granny Jeannie in Ocean Beach, CA which is part of San Diego. She was asleep at the beach in her stroller. Is she gorgeous or what?

Title: Mission Bay Walk
Start Time: 5:30 pm
Date: 2009-02-02
1. When I was 3 years old I pushed my doll carriage across a busy 2 lane highway a few blocks from my home, and miraculously, was not hurt. My parents and sister had called the police and the entire neighborhood was out looking for me.
2. I nearly died when I was infant because, while crawling around, I ate a heart pill my elderly Grandpa Castle happened to spill out of his medication bottle.
3. I was 14 when I got my first hair permanent. My sister Joan was in Beauty School and wanted to practice on me. She had already cut my hair so short I looked like Mia Farrow, so the perm made me look like Little Orphan Annie! I hated it and have gotten another permanent like that again!
4. I played in my first talent show when I was 8 years old. I played the piano in front of the entire elementary school. Funny thing was, my mother didn’t know a thing about it, and also did not even know I could play a whole song through on the piano.
5. In 1980, my husband won a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Mack Trucks, his client was so grateful he sent us on a world tour. We went to London, Paris, Athens, the Greek Islands, Egypt and Israel.
6. When we were visiting Egypt and were in the Pyramids, I was groped by our guide, Abdul. Steve, who was quite a distance behind us in the line and saw this happening, so he yelled out, “Abdul, get your G D hands off of my wife”!
7. My senior year in high school, on the night of graduation, my friends and I stayed out all night long. After I went home and went to bed, I didn’t get out of bed for a month! Somehow, that very night, I contracted Mononucleosis, and it took that long to get my strength back! A heck of a Graduation Night!
8. In 1965, when I was 18 years old, my mother played violin and I played the flute in the first Fremont Philharmonic Orchestra in Fremont.
9. From the time I was 10 or 11, my dad promised me a new car when I turned 16. The day finally came in 1963, and I got a beautiful two-toned brown 1959 Ford!
10. 4 days after I turned 21, I moved to New York City, after meeting Steve through friends while going to summer school at SF State University in the summer of 1968. We eventually moved in to an old house with 5 or 6 other people a block away from Haight-Ashbury. What a summer it was!
11. While living in the Bronx, in a beautiful 2 room apt. on the fifth floor (no elevator), my husband used to say that all the shop owners would come out to the sidewalk on Kingsbridge Road, and applaud when I walked by. I think he meant that I spent too much!
12. Also while living in New York City, I worked for a doctor’s office on the upper East side of Manhattan. One of our patients’ who we saw regularly for his shots of Penicillin (after his tours), was Jimi Hendrix.
13. When my parents came to visit shortly after Aric was born, we, along with Steve’s parents went on a trip to Niagara Falls. We tried to stop at a motel for the night, but every motel clerk said there was no room at the Inn. Apparently, Steve and I looked too “hippish” and weren’t acceptable. We drove on back to the Bronx, vowing never to get a haircut!
14. On a weekly basis, I used to get groped, molested, whistled, at or sexually taunted every day when I used to take the Lexington Avenue subway to work. Ask me for some of my stories sometime, they are a riot.
15. I helped one of my kids write an essay about why their cat was the best cat in the world. Lexi won 4 tickets to see the play “Cats” in downtown San Francisco. One of the very few things I have ever won.
16. In the 80’s I used to play racquetball 14 hours a week. I won a mixed doubles tournament once, and while playing on the glass court in front of the entire membership, the fellow on the opposite team dove through my legs to get a shot. He made the shot!
17. When I had my fourth child, my mother came over to babysit while I went to do my grocery shopping. When I got home and unloaded my groceries, I was so proud when I showed my mom what a cool picture frame I found with 3 openings for all my kids. My mother had to remind me I just had the fourth! That’s when I knew 4 was enough!
18. In the early 90’s I owned and operated a high-end women’s clothing business where I sold matching leggings and sweatshirts with crystals, and gold paint that I hand made for $150/outfit! I sold to small glitzy boutiques all over the US. It lasted about 4 months. Too much work!
19. I finally got my BS college degree in 1994, just about 30 years after graduating high school.
20. I got my first computer in around 1995 and taught myself how to create web pages. Since then, I have created over 40 websites for clients and family and friends.
21. 3 different times in my life I have completely picked up stakes and moved to entirely different cities. I moved to New York City in 1968, I moved to Chicago in 1999 for a job, and I moved to San Diego in 2007, knowing not a single person.
22. While I lived in Chicago for 5 years, the condo I bought had floor to ceiling windows on the entire front of the living room with a gorgeous view of Lake Michigan and Navy Pier in the front, and the Chicago River to the side. Beautiful, clean, welcoming city. Unfortunately it is 20 below zero in the winters! Hello California!
23. While in Chicago, I bought a small 2 bedroom week-end cottage right on Fox Lake with the water 100 feet in front of the front door. In the summer I drove my pontoon boat all over the 10 Chain-O-Lakes that are connected by channels and canals. In the winter, people used to ice skate to town for lunch. I loved this place.
24. I started taking guitar lessons at the Old Town School of Folk music while living in Chicago and after a few sessions, I started playing with Ensembles where we would take an entire album of songs for a particular rock group and perform at a neighborhood bar. I played Fleetwood Mac “Rumours”, several Beatles albums, a Beach Boy album, and 3 Crosby, Stills, Nash (and Young) albums. What a blast those days were!
25. I still play the flute and the guitar, but I have no idea how to play the piano (like I did in that talent show back in 1955). I would like to take lessons again some day and play that piece again.
What a great time I had visiting with Zak, Jordana, Harper, Atticus, and my son Matt came in from New York city for his neice’s birthday party. Jordana’s NY college roomate, Kim and her boyfriend Mike were also there. We all had a great time watching little Harper Clare enjoying her first bite of cake ever! She lapped it up!
Go here to see all the pictures: Here
Also, Jordana, Zak, Matt, Kim, Mike and Zak’s college friends Chris and Cassie all went white water rafting in Clear Creek, CO — a 5 Level Difficulty river — and boy they nearly drowned!
That is my daughter, Jordana, at the bottom of the picture nearly drowning! See all the pictures here: White Water Rafting
I am very excited about this visit to Jordana, Zak and Harper’s house. It is Harper’s very 1st birthday party, and uncle Matt is coming too! What a grand time we will have. Jordana’s college New York roomate is coming too. It will be a blast. Harper is just about to take her first steps. I am such a proud grandma!

I started Isagenix 7 days ago and today was my first cleanse day. Not too tasty, but I feel great! Energized, more alert, and focused.
Hey, I just configured this thing all by myself. Let’s see how much I actually use it from now on.
